Here are some pictures of my yard. They are mostly of the back yard as that is where we have focused our efforts on the tropical look.
Information about my area: I live in the foothills of Northern California just East of Sacramento. The elevation is 1500 ft. We are in Zone 7/8 for the winter. We will see 20+ days of frost and every 2-3 years we get snow. In 2006, we got 4 inches of snow that lasted for 3-4 days. We are Zone 9 for the heat of the summer. We typically have 100+ temperatures for 5-6 weeks in July and August. 110 is not uncommon and it is very dry at 10-15% humidity. Among other things...
Goal: Try to create a tropical garden oasis that can withstand the winter temperatures and our summer heat. To do this we have to protect in the winter and give extra humidity in the summer.
To view pictures, just select the thumbnail of each picture in the list on the left and it will appear in right side. Some of the pictures are large. I kept the detail level of the pictures so viewer could see some details of some plants.
