American River Freedom '97 (formerly the Fire)

2010/2011 U14 Girls Team

In 2009 at U13s the Fire was started as a Folsom Select team. They are coached by Kyle Shelton. Kyle has coached the Fire since U10s in the Folsom Soccer Club. The Fire has participated in US Club Soccer tournaments since U10s and has been ranked in the top 25 teams in Northern California. When American River FC was created, it seemed a good fit for the Fire because of their experience and success against local and bay area competitive teams.

Since making the leap to join American River FC, the Fire, the Freedom '97 has competed in several tournaments against Div 1 teams. The Freedom's team record is currently 22-10-3 (with one tournament to go). The Freedom is currently ranked 15 in Northern California.

Fire Fall League

In 2009, the Fire was invited to play in the Golden State Soccer League (GSSL). The GSSL is primarily made up of East Bay area teams. Looking for appropriate high level competition, the Fire jumped at the GSSL opportunity. The Fire was new to the GSSL, but was promoted from the traditional first year division of Bronze to the Silver B division. The Fire battled each week and found themselves fighting for the Championship in the last game against this year's new rival, ACC Mavericks Fury. The Fire had played them twice before and split victories with them. Due to a tie breaker situation, the Fire had to win the final game to claim Champions. However, through a hard fought game, ACC would end up Champions with a 1-0 win.

Congratulations to the Fire on their 2nd place finish with a record of 7-1-2.
